VBS for 2011 is “Shake It Up Café”. Since more people are focusing on healthy eating, resulting in planting organic gardens or choosing home-cooked meals as an affordable way to increase family time and improve nutrition, Cokesbury decided to center this year’s VBS around the culinary arts. It was named “Shake It Up” Café because Jesus calls us to “shake up” our lives and become his followers. The Bible gives us the recipe: be ready for God’s call, give happily to God and to others, believe fully in Jesus as God’s Son, remember Jesus’ life and teachings and celebrate God forever. Shake It Up Café introduces your children to stories of biblical festivals that reveal these ingredients and link the Old Testament, the New Testament and our lives today.

The curriculum introduces children to a deeper relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It inspires students and leaders with activities that are developed, tested, and refined to bring the Word of God alive to all who experience it. It includes Bible stories that give a sequential view of the Bible, beginning with two Old Testament stories followed by three New Testament stories that introduce Jesus and teach about his ministry, death, resurrection and the new life we have in him. It incorporates a mission emphasis on feeding the hungry in your community. It initiates a carryout challenge to all participants – children, youth and adults – to take the love of Jesus into their community and share it with everyone.
