ST. JOHN'S UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST -  PHOENIXVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA is a parish of a little less than 250 members, yet our involvement in ministries is consistent, thematic and extensive.  Broadly speaking, St. John's United Church of Christ  has three major focuses in terms of ministries:  (1) children, (2) the environment, and (3) health care.

Our children's ministries include all we do in worship and children's education (i.e., Sunday Church School, Children's Homilies during the Service of the Word, Youth Fellowship activities, musical ministries, etc.), as well as public advocacy in the form of letter writing and financial support to organizations such as Bethany Children's Home, the People's Faith Network and the Children's Defense Fund.

Regarding the environment, St. John's United Church of Christ is in mission with the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania and with the whole of the earth through our ongoing commitment to preserving the natural beauty and integrity of all of God's creation by using the Christian Principles of Environmental Stewardship as our model for sound ecological practices throughout our congregation.  The St. John's UCC Organic Community Garden is one great example of our environmental ministries.  Other examples include an environmental paper printed by our parish, advocacy in ecology and community gardens for urban centers, recycling efforts in the parish itself as well as in the community, and our financial support of such places as the Recycling Services of Pottstown and the National Wildlife Federation.

THE PARISH NURSING ministry  is an expression of one of the three focal ministries of St. Johns along with an emphasis upon children and environmental justice…parish nursing is part of our health care related ministries. St. Johns Parish Nursing ministry contains a weekly educational component in the form of bulletin inserts giving medical and health care information to the reader. You can read some of these helpful pieces on this site. And watch for further development of these resources in the months to come.

Additionally, our Parish Nursing Ministry provides opportunities for CPR classes periodically throughout the year; flu shots in the fall months (working in cooperation with the Phoenixville Hospital), blood pressure screenings, colon-rectal cancer screenings, a parish nursing file box which contains brochures, pamphlets, printed information on a variety of medical, social and health related topics including those things pertaining to prevention and health maintenance.
