The St. John's United Church of Christ Organic Community Garden is open to anyone in the Phoenixville area who wants to grow their own food organically. Membership or attendance at St. John's United Church of Christ is not necessary. Anyone who wishes to grow their own food organically may join the garden. We do ask, however, that all gardeners use organic techniques and donate 10% (the Biblical tithe) of their crops.

Through the years, most of the gardeners have been Phoenixville residents, usually from either the North Side or from the area between Nutt Road and Bridge Street. Ethnically, gardeners reflect Phoenixville's ethnic mix: African-American, Eastern European and Pennsylvania German. Less than 25% of the gardeners are members of St. John's United Church of Christ.

While an expected percentage of the gardeners are elderly, disabled and/or unemployed, the majority are low-income families with young children. In fact, 30% of this year's gardeners were children 13 years old or younger who are learning to garden organically with their parents or grandparents!
