Plot Size:

  • First year gardeners receive a 25 foot by 25 foot plot. Second year gardeners are eligible for a plot-and-a-half (25' x 37'). Third year gardeners may have as many plots as they can comfortably handle.

Free Seeds:

  • Pine Tree Garden Seeds and Seeds of Change often give us seeds. They are free for the taking. People are welcome to come and get seeds during parish office hours Monday through Thursday from 9am until 1pm. If this time is not convenient, call the church to schedule an appointment. There often are meetings or other gatherings in the evening when the church is open and you can get seeds. But call first, please, if you are coming other than during the stated office hours. Additionally, if you know someone who is struggling to make ends meet, but has their own garden at home, you may invite them to come with you to select seeds or take seeds for them. You   need not have a garden plot with us to have some free seeds.

Mulch:

·        Mulch prevents weeds and conserves water. We strongly recommend that you mulch your plot. After planting, cover the area with organic matter (leaves, straw, the mulch at the garden site, etc.). . Currently we have wood chips at the garden site and some of the piles are well decayed. By mulching early in the season, you eliminate weed growth and the need for as much watering during the summer.  During the summer of 2002, those gardeners who did heavily mulch had far less crop loss due to the drought.
