St. John's United Church of Christ is in mission with the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania and with the whole of the earth through our ongoing commitment to preserving the natural beauty and integrity of all of God's creation by using the Christian Principles of Environmental Stewardship as our model for sound ecological practices throughout our congregation.
One way our parish strives to practice good ecological stewardship is through church-wide recycling efforts. With the help of Phoenixville community curbside recycling and through the efforts of our parishioners, St. John's UCC consistently recycles cans, paper, cardboard and plastic goods. We use only biodegradable trash bags in our facility and do not allow the use of styrofoam products which do not biodegrade. In addition, St. John's is ever mindful of disposing of hazardous substances in the proper manner.
Another example of our environmental stewardship is through the practice of energy conservation in the church. Conservation measures are in force to ensure that electricity, fuel oil and other natural resources within our facility are used wisely and not wasted.
St. John's UCC also runs a community garden, at which we allow only organic gardening techniques.
St. John's UCC models its Christian Environmentalism efforts after the guidelines printed in "A Parish Handbook for Christian Environmentalism in the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania."
