YOUR PASTOR'S FUND DOLLARS are hard at work helping needy Philadelphia area mothers. Through a
program called "BabyManna" we as a
congregation are helping to provide mothers with the greatest gift we can give them
the means to ensure that their babies are well fed and will grow up healthy. 12,000 babies
are born into poverty throughout the Delaware Valley each year and infant malnutrition is
not confined strictly to urban areas. Most of these children are bottle fed, in great part
because so many are cared for by someone other than their mothers. The cost of infant
formula is so steep that many poor caregivers resort to feeding their babies sugar water
or watered down formula, which are obviously weak substitutes. Infant formula and baby
food are some of the most requested items from member feeding agencies of the Philadelphia
Food Bank. BabyManna, a program endorsed by the PA Southeast Conference of the United
Church of Christ, collects money for the sole use of purchasing infant formula and baby
food. The formula and baby food purchased will be available to the Food Banks
network of over 700 member feeding agencies.
