St. John's United Church of Christ is in mission with children around the world through our participation in the Child Sponsorship Program in conjunction with the Wider Church Ministries of the United Church of Christ.
The Child Sponsorship Program is a global children's ministry of the United Church of Christ. Through this ministry, congregations and individuals are provided an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people throughout the world.
As of January, 2012, St. Johns continues to explore with our colleagues in Cleveland the next child we will sponsor. For over two decades, St. John’s has sponsored a child through our denominational program …..mostly in the Middle East and mostly at Rawdat el Zuhr in East Jerusalem. Our last sponsored child was graduated from that program. Watch for updates coming in 2012 about a new young person St. John’s will sponsor.
The United Church of Christ, since 1950, has been committed to Child Sponsorship. The Child Sponsorship program has been part of the Common Global Ministries (UCC and Disciples of Christ) since July 1, 2000. The program is committed to helping children at risk by providing a practical way for individuals and churches to ‘extend a helping hand’. This ministry helps to safeguard the future of children around the world. The Child Sponsorship Program provides assistance to destitute children in eleven centers in Africa, the Middle East, the Caribbean, Asia and Europe.
